About
Hi, nice to "meet" you!
My name is Janka, founder of Penthwell Dog Training. I have a passion for dogs and creating healthy dog-to-owner relationships based on trust, respect and empathy.
I am an accessible and inclusive dog trainer, I believe "not one size fits all" and I endevour to make your dog training experience fun and educational. Please do let me know in the booking form if I can make any adjustments for you and/or your dog to ensure you both have the best possible environment to thrive and learn.

Why inclusive dog training?
I was born with Cystic Fibrosis, which is a life-limiting condition (or it was when I was born) and a recognised disability, I know first hand what it feels like to not get the same opportunities and to rely on others making some extra effort for me.
But it's not just my own experience. During my work in other roles. I noticed how inaccessible jobs and activities often are to anyone not fitting the mould. This is also true for the dog training industry and I want to change this. Every dog owner deserves the best chance to succeed in learning with their dog - so if I can make adjustments for you and your dog, please just let me know.

What's my training style?
I have been working with dogs for over 15 years , following my father's footsteps , who worked as a dog trainer in Germany. Dog training has been evolving and we now know more about how dogs learn, what motivates them and how to harness this in our training. I teach you and your dog, using modern training methods based on scientific research, combined with years of experience of working with dogs.
Scentwork iis one of my favourite activities for dogs, whether just for fun, mental stimulation, behaviour support or competition. I compete in UK trials with my Labrador Trudy and am a certified trial official, ORT host & assessor as well as a judge for The National Nosework Association.

Having owned gundog breeds for most of my adult life and taking my own dogs beating & picking up in the field, I thoroughly enjoy these dogs working in the roles they are bred for.
Working for other gundog trainers running their group classes and 121 sessions, I felt like the traditional training methods were often outdated, based on theories which had been debunked many years ago and were simply no fun for dogs or their owners!
This is why I have created workshops and courses for pet dogs as well as those who will work in the field during the season, using positive reinforcement, backed with knowledge on canine studies and years of experience as a dog trainer.

The foundation of a great companion, successful team mate in dog sports or reliable partner in the field is the relationship between dog and human. We need to build trust, coach with kindness and empathy and learn to speak "dog"!
I provide a positive, reward-based training methodology to build a relationship of trust and respect between you and your dog.
Whether you are looking to teach foundations like recall or lead walking, are interested in Gundog training or Scent Detection or need support with your dog's behaviour - I will teach you to teach your dog in a save and fun environment!

I am of course fully ensured and hold an Enhanced DBS certificate.
Sounds good?
